No trip to Isla Mujeres is complete without a golf cart rental! Whether you are visiting on a day trip or here for an extended period of time, golf carts are a great way to explore the island. There are many different places that you can rent golf carts, prices are regulated so don't assume that you will be getting any deals at a different golf cart rental place. All the golf cart rental agencies are located within the Centro making it convenient to rent as soon as you step off the ferry. Golf cart rental agencies do offer discounts for longer rentals and prices can be paid in either USD or Mexican Pesos. It is standard practice that when you rent a golf cart that the rental agency keeps your drivers licence. This is returned to you once the cart is returned. If you do plan on renting for more than a day, most rental agencies will require you to bring the cart in to fill up the gas. This is included in the rental price.
Golf Cart Tips For Success
Just because you may be on vacation, drinking and having a great time does not give you free reign to drive like a fool. This is not a golf course, but a city with roads you will share with other golf carts, scooters, cars and people. Understand that accidents do happen, and we have personally seen too many. Most are avoidable if you follow these simple tips!
-Respect the road.
-Do not drink and drive (this is a grey area, and although drinking is somewhat tolerated, excessive drinking is not.)
-Stay on one side of the road! (Preferably the right, this allows taxis and scooters to pass you safetly)
-Watch out for the 'Topes' (Speedbumps. They are often and may or may not be marked)
-Know how many people are allowed on the cart, too many and you WILL be pulled over.
-Most IMPORTANT, when driving in the Colonias, drive slow. There are children & animals and you do NOT want to hit anyone.
-DO NOT let children drive the golf carts. Drivers licences are required. Golf carts are not toys. -When it rains on Isla Mujeres, it often floods in certain areas. Most golf carts tend to stall when driving through too much water.
